173 - Zero Kisses for Me - children's book review

Kisses for Me.jpg

Zero Kisses for Me was written by Virginie Soumagnac and illustrated by Manuela Monari. It was published by Tundra Books in 2009.

The child in this story is sick of being kissed. Mama always kisses him... and so does all of his family. He’s sick of being kissed! But by the end, this child realizes he likes those kisses deep down.

Depending on the picture book we, the audience, have to put up with some uptight kids. The child in this book is pretty dramatic and entertains us enough.

The illustrations in this book seem to have been done with a computer. The drawings are simple which allow the reader to get through the book at a good pace.

In some scenes we have the child doing a bunch of poses. There is also a heart with “kissy” lips and several minor characters. The illustrator does a good jobs doodling away.

The writing is well done. Lots of words are in bold to help the reader emphasize words.

The font (typeface) looks like it was written by a nine-year old child but it adds to the humor of the story.

Zero Kisses for Me is a nice story since most of us have probably had to put up with a doting parent before.
