144 - Papa, please get the moon for me BY Eric Carle - Children's book review

Papa, please get the moon.jpg

Papa, please get the moon for me was written and illustrated by Eric Carle. It was published by Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing Division in 1986.

Monica wants to play with the moon so she asks her father to “get the moon for her”. He gets it and brings it to earth. The moon gets smaller and smaller and disappears. It appears a few days later, back in it’s old position.

This story is very simple (it takes less than five minutes to read) but the way the book is constructed is really fun and interactive. The pages expand in all directions and it’s got theatrical value to it... I can imagine people’s eyes opening wide when these pages are opened.

I’ve mentioned before that I think Eric Carle’s art is somewhat primitive. I do like the final drawing of the moon as you kind see a slight smile (or smirk). His books tend to captivate our imagination and allow us to escape in his unique world.

Recommended.
