208 - Long time, no illustrate

Well, it’s been a while since I wrote something in my blog…

Since getting a job my brain hasn’t been willing to do anything too creative besides my free jazz project (even this has slowed down considerably).

Also, I’ve turned off my Facebook account because I think it’s a waste of time looking at other people’s photos and comments. I’ll probably turn it back on for a short period of time in a couple of months… or maybe I’ll forget about it for good. It’s like that final cigarette… but 6 months later you have a couple of puffs and you’re hooked again. I don’t want that to happen again.

As far as the illustrating is concerned I haven’t been too active… until yesterday. I got bored and doodled some utter nonsense. Now, all I have to do is dump in some colour and every one should be happy.

I suppose part of being an “artist” is being able to bulshit for hours on end about what you create… this is something that I’ve always felt I’ve lacked. What you see is what you get? Don’t ask me about the deeper meaning… but then most snotty art-minded people would dismiss me as being a hack… an amateur that deserves little attention. I’m rambling…

Perhaps I should think of a question I could ask myself and that would be a good starting point.

Interviewer: So, what are you trying to express with this drawing?

Mark: Well, if you look at my little people they tend to be in the most bizarre worlds possible. They tend to be happy but sometimes perplexed or sad. What am I trying to express with this drawing? Umm… nothing really. Perhaps, I’m using these little people to escape from the realities of the current world that I live in and break as many rules as I can.

Umm… I don’t think I really answered the question but at least I tried. To bulshit or not… that is the question and with art it seems you have to do it in order to sell what you make.
