200 - Free Jazz Vancouver...

Well, it’s been a busy week for me but I’ve been pretty good with my free time activities.

A while ago I was promoting the music group that I play in called Free Jazz Vancouver on this blog. I’ve been playing with this group since the summer of 2013 and we all enjoy what we’re doing. It’s also nice to get together with people and sip a few beers (in my case… it’s actually chug).

About 4 months ago, I decided to take some time off that social network that seems to waste a lot of my free time (Facebo-k) and to get my Internet kick I started to dump videos of my trombone and Free Jazz Vancouver on Youtube…

Many months later, there are roughly 80 videos up. Not bad but I feel like it’s still not enough. Youtube knows how to make things addictive for people who upload stuff and they have a lot of statistic as to who listens to whatever. Free Jazz Vancouver gets a lot of listeners from the States and certain European countries (the Netherlands, Britain, France, etc). It’s all very fun and I never imagined that I could get an international audience in my lifetime (granted, most people don’t bother listening more than 20 or 30 seconds but the odd person goes past a minute or listens to the whole thing!).

Could this be a type of “renaissance” for me with the dreaded trombone that I’ve struggled to play.

Now the big question is what kind of steps do we need to take to get to the next level. Most people probably don’t have the tolerance for listening to this kind of music since it isn’t structured too strictly. We’ve changed things a bit over time… we have more grooves and steady rhythms but it’s all improvised from the start… so I think the Free Jazz Vancouver name still works.

Well, the next step had to be its own webpage so it’s been created. Please go to: http://www.freejazzvancouver.com to read the blog and see some videos.

It’s really nothing special but it’s better than nothing.

So far so good though. The number of listeners have slowly increased with the Youtube hits and me and the other members have been thinking about all those small changes that you need to do.

Here’s one example… today I looked up what videos are there on Youtube about the specific trombone that I use. There were only 15 videos, so it’s a perfect opportunity for me (and Free Jazz Vancouver) to dominate this one specific area of Youtube this idea came up because one member suggested using a certain tag.

The motto of the group is… Quantity over quality… it works in many ways to get attention.

Thanks for reading this blog… I’ll try my best to update this at least once a week (this sounds like a New Year’s resolution…).
