97 - Good Little Wolf - children's book review

Good Little Wolf was written and illustrated by Kristina Andres and published by NorthSouth.

There really isn’t a story to tell in Good Little Wolf. We have various drawings of the wolf and his tiny friends (a giraffe, a sheep, a rabbit and a hamster-ish character). The wolf seems to be a misunderstood character and we learn this all from his/her point of view.

This book is twenty four pages and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Excellent illustrations! They are bizarre and Andres knows how to distort things (note the strange looking house that mixes in the bed in the form of the house or the wolf suddenly becoming humongous). There’s a lot of good use of white space on some pages.

I’m not sure who did the translation of Good Little Wolf but I didn’t find any discomfort with the text. The text is brief (usually just a sentence).

We always seem to think the wolf as a bad and evil character. It’s not good to stereotype and maybe some children might think a little deeper about how characters are labeled after reading Good Little Wolf.

I would recommend this book but I’m not sure whether children would understand it. I have a feeling adults might appreciate this more than children.
