115 - Here Come Gosling! - children's book review

Here comes Gosling.jpg

Here Comes Gosling! was published by Penguin Young Readers Group in 2009. It was written by Sandy Asher and illustrated by Keith Graves.

Froggie’s friend Rabbit, tells him that Gander and Goose will visit with their new baby, Gosling. Froggie is excited and they both prepare to welcome the family. They make food, Froggie takes a shower and they find the perfect spot for a picnic.

When the family arrives the baby is crying crying crying! Froggie thinks the baby doesn’t like him because of the tears but after a bit of entertaining Froggie and Gosling are buddies.

Here Comes Golsing! has quite a bit of text in it so it takes about ten minutes to read aloud. Froggie sings quite often so we have to imagine how this tune goes.

Froggie tends to repeat himself over and over. I guess this is a good way for children to remember phrases.

The illustration are extremely well done. I got a lot of pleasure from observing how pleasant acrylic paints look. The illustrator sure has created a convincing world with this story.

I’m not too sure what the message of Here Comes Golsling! is but probably something about dealing with infants. The first half of the story is the preparation and then the second half is meeting the crying baby and calming it down.

One more thing I should mention is that I'm not a big fan of children’s books that end with the copyright page... after reading a nice story, there’s something disappointing about turning the final page and seeing where the book is published in different countries and that it was manufactured in China...
