177 - Yoo-Hoo, Lady Bug! by Mem Fox - children's book review

Yoo-Hoo Lady Bug! was written by Mem Fox and illustrated by Laura Ljungkvist. It was published by Beach Lane Books in 2013.

This book doesn’t really have a story. The lady bug hides in various places and then there a tiny bit of rhyme to describe where it is. Before we looks we get to say the book’s key phrase: “Yoo-Hoo Lady Bug! Where are you?”

I’m a big fan of ladybugs since they eat a lot of unwanted insects. Plus they’re pretty cute.

You-Hoo Lady Bug! is a good book for young readers. Unlike Waldo, the lady bug isn’t too difficult to find (the pages aren’t full of as much stuff). I actually enjoyed saying “Yoo-Hoo Lady Bug!” and I’m sure kids will be able to memorize this sentence super quick.

The illustrations are nicely done. I believe I’ve seen Laura Ljungkvist’s illustrations in Pepi Sings a New Song. Her sense of color and the patterns that she choose will delight readers. It’s all very pleasant on the eyes and it’s always fun to go over each detail slowly.

Recommended for young children.
