Brown Rabbit in the City was published by Macmillan Children’s Books in 2010. It was written and illustrated by Natalie Russell.

Brown Rabbit is going to meet his girlfriend, Little Rabbit, in the big city. It’s his first time to go but wherever they go Little Rabbit has to rush to various places. By the end she realizes that she has been ignoring Brown Rabbit. They make up and we have a happy ending.

I’ve read stories like this before so the story isn’t too surprising. What keeps this story interesting are the illustrations (something to do with screen printing... which I don’t really understand... I guess I’ll have to google this). A lot of the colors look retro in some ways. The shapes and patterns are quite unique making this book quite original. I liked how the illustration tend to be simple and 2-D-ish.

Most of the text is pretty simple to read... not to many big words that’ll confuse little children and parents should be able to read Brown Rabbit in the City fairly easily and smoothly.

Oh... I do like the bronze shininess of the text on the front cover...

The theme of the story is to not get carried away with your individual desires and to consider what other people want (I guess...).

An enjoyable story.
