159 - Plant a Kiss by Amy Krouse Rosenthal - children's book review

Plant a Kiss.jpg

Plant a Kiss was published in 2012 by HarperCollins Publishers. It was written by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds.

Little Miss decides to plant a kiss on the ground. Out comes some sparkling magical goop... she takes it every where in the world in all sorts of conditions. By the end, this goop gives eternal bliss.

This goop is quite fascinating since HarperCollins must have spent a little extra money to create it... the goop looks like something that can be peeled off from the pages but don’t worry... I’ve tried and it’s stuck pretty firmly.

The writing in this story is written in it’s own unique way. There really aren’t many complete sentences... just fragmented sentences or words. I do think “eternal bliss” might be a tough concept for really young kids to understand (the ending of the story).

Some parents might object to a a child kissing dirt. I wouldn’t want my innocent child going to backyard and kissing the soil next to the tomato plants hoping for some magic goop to appear...

Overall a very nice story. There’s lots of white space used in Plant a Kiss... I’m trying to figure out the point of it all. A kiss is supposed to give eternal bliss?
