141 - The Secret Birthday Message - children's book review

The Secret Birthday.jpg

The Secret Birthday Message was created by Eric Carle and was published by Harper Collins Publishers in 1971.

Tim finds an envelope that teaches him how to find his birthday present. The process of the book is pretty interactive since the pages are cut up in special ways.

The Secret Birthday Message is a pretty fun read. Each page has unique shapes and I’m sure when this book first came out lots of kids had a great time turning each page, waiting for the birthday present.

Eric Carle seems to have his own unique way of creating illustrations. I finished reading another one of his books, just now, and I’d call his art primitive but completely understandable. By being simple, it lets the reader escape into a pretty original world.

I’d recommend this book as I’m sure children would get a pleasure from reading/looking at each page.
