Sammy The Classroom Guinea Pig was published in 2005 by Henry Holt and Company. It was written and illustrated by Alix Berenzy.

Sammy is the classroom guinea pig. He’s a fairly normal guinea pig but one day he goes berserk. What’s wrong with Sammy?

I chose to read and review this book because I actually owned a guinea pig many years ago. His name was Buster and he lived for about four years (I didn’t know when he was born... so who knows how old he was when he died). Buster was a nice guinea pig but he wasn’t very social, usually hiding in his little cardboard house.

Sammy the guinea pig has an educational feel to it. By reading this book you’ll learn a few tips on how to take care of a guinea pig and also some facts. The ending of the story is rather simplistic... you’ll see what I mean.

The illustrations are done by color pencil (I believe). The color is on the soft side which makes it easy to look at. The children in the classroom come from all sort of backgrounds.... giving the story a “multicultural” feel.

The point of the story is that even guinea pigs get lonely so lets communicate with them.
