Free Jazz Vancouver has been pumping out the tunes on Youtube for a couple of months now.
How is the status of Free Jazz Vancouver?
It’s all hard to tell but things are looking up!
One reason for starting this project was to promote and be listened to people all over the world. Step one is complete since people from every continent have sampled Free Jazz Vancouver’s clips (yes, this can be seen in the “analytics” section).
Most people listen to these clips for less than ten seconds but there is the odd person who listens for thirty seconds… sometimes a minute and shockingly… the full tune! I’d say one out of twenty might listen all the way through (mostly European… thanks!). The odds of people listening to the full tunes are pretty low but they could be worse.
Today’s tune is a pretty one. Walter Lovell on drums sets up a nice rhythm using the side of his sticks on his snare drum. The trombone (Mark Quigley) plays the first few note which turns into a melody that most Irish people would be quite familiar… Danny Boy but with a slight twist of lemon...
