102 - No Thumping on the Bed - children's book review

No Thumping on the Bed was written and illustrated by Tedd Arnold. It was published by Dial Books for Young Readers in 2012.

Walter loves jumping and bouncing on his bed. His father warns him that the bed will crash right through the floor if he doesn’t go to bed. While sleeping Walter hear the boy who lives above him jumping up and down so why can’t he also jump!? After jumping higher and higher Walter falls through the floor and the adventure begins because the bed and Walter crash down from level to level.

The main appeal of this book is probably the illustrations. There’s a ton of detail and the perspectives are rather chaotic. As Walter goes down floor after floor the amount of stuff that accompanies him increases and increases. It’s all a very wild adventure. I’m a little curious why Tedd Arnold wrote all these light swirly marks all over the place.

Kids will be kids and they’ll always climb and jump on things that looks fun. I think I used to enjoy jumping on my bed and I wonder how much I damaged the springs in that bed. I also  remember a conversation with a friend in Japan (he’s about 20 years old than me) and he told me that his children once destroyed a sofa by jumping up and down on it. He mentioned that this was their job -- to destroy thing.

Maybe tonight I’ll jump on my bed for old times’ sake.

I would recommend this book especially for the illustrations.
