204 - Dancing with my Illustrations

Drawing one little person after another has been something that I’ve done since I was a child. I used to draw little people at war, usually killing each other. There would be lots of tanks, bullets and bazookas. I think most boys like to draw these kind of things, right?

Many years later, my illustrations aren’t quite as violent. While I would like to draw people blowing each other up, I’m not sure if this is the right approach to get people to appreciate my illustrations.

So… I’ve been drawings a lot of drawings of little people dancing up and down, left and right. The past ten or so drawings have been like that and I’m thinking that this has to stop sooner or later (or does it). What exactly goes on in my mind when I draw this kind of stuff?

I tend to focus on changing the bodies little by little. I still don’t put noses into my characters. They have no necks. Once in a while I get wild and draw two people holding each other… And then I’ll draw a person doing a pose that I could personally never imagine doing.

The big question is… what is the point of drawing people dancing? I suppose I should try to understand my feelings towards “dance”. I’m a terrible dancer and I’ve never gone to a nightclub where everyone is swinging their bodies to the music. Perhaps, these drawings are a way of me… dancing, innocently, avoiding being in a dark nightclub with music blasting so loud that you can barely hear the person that’s two feet away from you…

Dance, dance, dance. Isn’t that a Haruki Murakami book?
